Cristiano Ronaldo was born on February 5, 1985, in Santo António, a neighborhood of Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal.
Family
The youngest son of Maria Dolores dos Santos and the municipal gardener José Dinis Aveiro, who named him Ronaldo in homage to the American politician and actor Ronald Reagan .
He had an older brother, Hugo, and two older sisters, Elma and Liliana Cátia. His great-grandmother Isabel da Piedade was from Cape Verde.
His family has strong Catholic roots, and Ronaldo said they lived in poverty having to share a room with his brother and sisters.
Very popular among his schoolmates, he was expelled from school after throwing a chair at a teacher for disrespecting him.
Footballer
He grew up in a working-class neighborhood and was scouted by Sporting Lisbon at the age of ten. Cristiano Ronaldo was then playing for the modest Andorinha , a club from his native Funchal, where his father worked as a kit man. Four years later, he and his mother agreed to dedicate themselves exclusively to football.
Ronaldo then moved to Nacional, and six months later, the latter transferred Cristiano's rights. In 2001, the first team coach, the Romanian Laszlo Boloni , wanted him to make his debut that same year, but a test advised against it because he was not sufficiently fit. A year later, he made him make his debut in the Champions League qualifier against Inter .
Portuguese National Team
With Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo was part of the attack alongside Quaresma , Helder Postiga, and Hugo Viana in the under-21 team that defeated England. In June, he was the star of the under-20 team that won the prestigious tournament in Touloun, beating Italy 3-1 in the final. Felipe Scolari gave him his debut with the senior team on 20 August 2003 against Kazakhstan. At eighteen years old, he replaced Luis Figo , one of his idols.
On 8 September 2020, he became the first European player in the history of international football to score 100 goals.
Manchester United FC
Barça and Juve were after him, but Manchester finally signed him in the summer of 2003 after paying a transfer fee of 17.5 million euros. Cristiano remained at the club for 6 seasons, winning 3 Premier Leagues, 1 European Cup, and 1 Club World Cup.
Acknowledgements
Considered one of the best footballers in the world and one of the most media-friendly sportsmen, Ronaldo was awarded the Premier League Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008, as well as Portuguese Sportsman of the Year. Real Madrid FC
On 11 June 2009, Manchester United accepted a €93.9 million offer from Real Madrid CF. Cristiano Ronaldo's transfer was confirmed on 26 June and became the most expensive transfer in football history. He was presented at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in front of 80,000 people on 6 July. He made his debut on the pitch on 21 July in a 1–0 win over Shamrock Rovers.
His first goal came a week later from the penalty spot in Madrid's 4–2 win over LDU Quito. On 29 August, he made his debut in La Liga with a goal against Deportivo La Coruña, which they won 3–2; on 15 September, he scored two free kicks in a 5–2 win over Zürich, his first Champions League goals for Real. After scoring another goal in a league match against Villarreal, he became the first player at the club to score in his first four appearances.
With Real Madrid, he won the Copa del Rey in 2011, the 2011–12 La Liga, and the 2012 Spanish Super Cup. With the Portuguese national team, he finished runners-up at Euro 2004 in Portugal and fourth place at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
In his fourth consecutive season with Real Madrid, he won the Copa del Rey, the Champions League, a Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup. In the Champions League final against Atlético Madrid, he became the first player in history to score in two European Cup finals for two different winning teams. Cristiano Ronaldo won his second Ballon d'Or on 13 January 2014, ahead of Messi and Ribéry after a spectacular 2013 with 69 goals and a great World Cup play-off with Portugal.
On 12 January 2015, he won his third Ballon d'Or, reaching 37.66% of the votes, more than double the votes received by Messi (15.76%). On 13 October, he received his fourth Golden Boot, becoming the player to have received it the most times, the last three with Real Madrid. He won Real Madrid's eleventh European Cup after defeating Atlético Madrid on penalties in the 2015–16 Champions League final, scoring the decisive goal in the shoot-out With the Portuguese national team, he won the 2016 Euro Cup after beating France in the final in Paris. He had to go off injured in the first half of the match, but ended up lifting the trophy as team captain, as well as being crowned Silver Boot of the tournament after scoring three goals and providing three assists. On 12 December 2016, he won his fourth Ballon d'Or. The 31-year-old Portuguese beat out, among others, Leo Messi and Antoine Griezmann. On Monday 9 January 2017, he was awarded The Best Award , given by FIFA to the best player in the world in 2016, at a gala held at the TPC (Technology and Production Center) Studios in Zurich. On 21 May 2017, five years after winning the last one, Real Madrid were crowned champions, winning their thirty-third league title and the first under Zinedine Zidane as a coach, finishing off with goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema at La Rosaleda, against a Málaga that never speculated (0-2). Cristiano Ronaldo was awarded a new Ballon d'Or on 7 December 2017. The Portuguese striker won the prestigious France Football magazine award for the fifth time in his career, in a ceremony held in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, equalling Leo Messi, being the two footballers in history who have won this trophy the most times to date, in addition to being the second consecutive year that Ronaldo won the trophy, after having also won it in 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2016.
His time at Real Madrid ended on 10 July 2018. The Portuguese striker, aged 33, said goodbye to the white club after nine seasons. He arrived in July 2009, and in July 2018, he left for Italy for 105 million euros to wear the Juventus shirt .
This brought to an end a history of 450 goals in 438 games with the Madrid shirt, finishing as the all-time top scorer for the Madrid team, also winning two Leagues, two Copa del Rey, two Spanish Super Cups, four Champions Leagues, three European Super Cups and three World Cups, for a total of 16 titles.
Juventus FC
On April 20, 2019, Juventus won 2-1 against Fiorentina, mathematically winning their 35th Italian championship title, the eighth in a row, and the first of the Cristiano Ronaldo era.
In his three seasons at Juve, Cristiano won two league titles, one Italian Cup and one Italian Super Cup, and scored 101 goals in 134 matches.
Manchester United
In August 2021, it was announced that the Portuguese striker, who was also interested in the city, was leaving Juventus and returning to Manchester United , the club with which he won the 2008 Champions League. The contract ties CR7 to United for two seasons. The English club pays 15 million euros to Juventus plus eight million in variables, which would add up to the amount that the Italian company had yet to amortize from the 127 million euros it paid Real Madrid in the summer of 2018.
Al Nassr
Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr officially announced on Friday, December 30, 2022, the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo for the next two seasons, after the Portuguese player broke off his relationship with Manchester United during the World Cup in Qatar. Al Nassr, one of the best teams in Saudi Arabia, managed to be champions of the national league on several occasions.
In August 2023, he achieved his first title with the Arab team by winning the 2023 Arab Champions Cup, where he scored a double in the final against Al-Hilal Saudi Football Club. In addition, he earned the Golden Boot award at that tournament.
